What is Laser Engraving?
Laser Engraving is a decoration method where the laser acts as a chisel, incising marks by removing layers from the surface of the material. The laser hits localized areas with massive levels of energy to generate the high heat required for vaporization
Best For:
-
Drinkware: Engraving is a popular option for metal drinkware, such as tumblers, travel mugs, and water bottles.
- Accessories: Engraving is a versatile decoration method that can be used on many items from pens, journals, dog tags, phonestands, and more!
Considerations:
-
Small Details Maybe Lost: Intricate Logos or logos with small details may not convert well into an engraving file. Logos may need to be adjusted to remove intricate or small details. Our design team can assist with adjusting your design.
-
Artwork should be limited to one color and one layer: The product builder will automatically convert your logo for engraving. Multiple layers will merge into one layer, causing the image to engrave as one solid block in the shape of your logo. Layered details will be lost.

Artwork Requirements:
- Your artwork should be limited to one color and only one layer. Similar to laser engraving, all artwork layers are merged into one layer causing multiple layers to be engraved as a solid block in the shape of your logo.
-
Your artwork should not have transparencies or opacities. Transparencies or opacities will be converted to solid objects when your file is converted to an engraving file.
- Your artwork should not have drop shadows. Drop shadows will be converted to solid objects when your file is converted to an engraving file.
- Your artwork should not have gradients. Gradients will be converted to solid objects when your file is converted to an engraving file.
- All lines must have a minimum line weight of 1 point. Lines less than 1 point will not engraving properly on the product, causing gaps to be printed in the artwork.
-
All negative spaces need to be a minimum thickness equivalent to 2 points. Negative spaces less than 2 points will not allow enough clearance between printed lines, causing those lines to bleed together.
-
All text should be converted to outlines, if uploading a vector file. Live fonts will not be recognized as objects to print. Exporting your file as a PNG will also fix this problem.
File Requirements:
- Your file should have a minimum resolution of 300 dpi (pixels per inch) scaled at 10 inches. Many of our garments will print at or near 10 inch width. Saving your file at this size will ensure the resolution is maintained as your artwork is scaled for different products.
- Your file should be formatted as either a PNG or vector file (.ai .eps .pdf .svg).
-
Your file must have a transparent background. Our product builder automatically converts your file. If there is a background on your file, the product builder will convert your logo to a solid block in the shape of your logo.
